In the first incident, two seven-year-old boys died after they slipped and fell off the terrace of their house in Pulianthope on Saturday. Police said the victims — R Lokesh and S Vetriraja — were playing on the terrace of the former’s house in Thattatkulam when they tried to swing from a rope, meant for drying clothes. But when the duo hit the parapet wall, which was reportedly weak owing to the recent rains, it collapsed throwing the kids onto the ground.

While Lokesh died on the spot, Vetriraja was rushed to Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital (RGGGH) with a severe head injury. But he also succumbed within an hour. Based on Vetriraja’s father Senthil Kumar’s complaint, Pulianthope police registered a case and investigated the matter. While Lokesh was the only son of Ramesh and Kavitha, Vetriraja was the second son of Senthil Kumar and Gowthami.

In a similar incident, a 14-year-old student fell off the fourth floor of his apartment at Ayapakkam, and died on way to hospital.

The incident took place around 6 pm on Saturday and the victim, Dinesh (14), who is a Class 9 student at a government higher secondary school, was declared brought dead at Apollo Hospital, Vanagaram.

After the preliminary inquiry, police said that Dinesh was interested in rearing birds and had the habit of trapping the birds on the terrace of his house. Whenever his parents — Mahendran and Nirmala — locked the door to the terrace, he would climb through the sunshade. On Saturday, he tried to climb, but slipped and fell and suffered severe injuries.

Dinesh’s father is working as a security guard and the couple has an elder son, Naresh. Dinesh’s body was sent to Kilpauk Medical College for post-mortem. Police have registered a case.
