Motorists should carry original licences from September 1: Minister
The state transport minister MR Vijayabhaskar on Tuesday announced that all the motorists should carry their original licence with them from September 1.

The transport officials conducted a review meeting at the Pallavan House to discuss the possible ways to reduce accident cases in the city. Various stakeholders, including police personnel, Corporation officials and other top transport officials participated in the meeting.
Later, speaking to media, the minister said that the transport department has been keen to reduce the accidents both in the city and rest of the state. “All the motorists should have their original licences from September 1 and such step will help reduce the accidents. Around 9,500 licences have so far been cancelled from the motorists, who involved in accident cases due to negligent driving,” he said.
The minister and transport officials also inspected a new electric bus and also travelled in it from Pallavan House to Gandhi Statue via War Memorial. “We have already conducted a trial run and this electric bus is made by a different company (BYD). We have also submitted reports after travelling and asked the company staff to modify certain elements in accordance with the city’s infrastructure,” the minister said, adding that they would float a tender soon.
