This is the second such incident reported in T Nagar. Police said that the victim and suspect identified as Satyanarayana (37) were known to each other as they live in adjacent houses.

“He’s been stalking the woman for long. He was aware of the woman’s routine. He resorted to this extreme act after his efforts to force the woman into marrying him failed miserably,” a police official said.

A release from City Police Office said the suspect followed the woman when she alighted from the bus at T Nagar bus stand around noon on Wednesday. “The woman refused his proposal of marriage and warned him not to disturb her again. Enraged, Satyanarayana pulled out a knife and stabbed her multiple times in the face and neck. Satyanarayana’s attack was aimed at killing the victim and that she shouldn’t marry anyone else if not him,” the release added.

The onlookers rescued the woman and admitted her to a hospital in the vicinity. Her condition is said to be stable. On information, Mambalam police fanned out a party which rounded up Satyanarayana within two hours after the incident. He was later produced before a court which remanded him in judicial custody. The victim is pursuing a diploma course in the city while the suspect sells toys and other essential articles on a pavement in Parry’s Corner.

In the previous case, the victim was employed at an automobile major here, and was staying in a hostel in West Mambalam when the incident took place. The victim’s former colleague Raghunath, (23), a native of Virudhunagar, was lying in wait for her, and reportedly stabbed her in her stomach with a knife, on March 22. The suspect was caught by locals with the help of stray dogs and the victim survived the incident.
