Baby dies after being saved from Cooum
A newborn male child was found dumped with its umbilical cord intact on Wednesday at Cooum river near Kalaivanar Nagar in Annanagar on Wednesday.

Passers-by who noticed the baby wrapped in a sheet and almost floating in the river, in the wee hours, secured the child and alerted the 108 ambulance services. The personnel reached the spot immediately and rushed the infant to KMC as the pulse rate was found to be below normal. However, doctors declared the child dead on arrival.
Police sources said that the child could have been delivered premature, approximately in eight months, as it weighed just as low as 500g. It was not sure if the kid was dumped there or washed away by the river from elsewhere.
Inspector Rajaprabhu, who conducted an inquiry in the locality has alerted all major hospitals to check if any newborn was reported missing in the last two days, said police department.
