The victim, Harish, who suffered severe injuries in head and right hand was first rushed to Kancheepuram government hospital, from where he was referred to Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital (RGGGH).
Harish, a graduate, is working in a courier firm, and was staying with his friend Ajay. According to Ajay, Harish went to a fast food stall near Ekambaranathar temple in Kancheepuram on Tuesday afternoon. “He saw a crowd near the food stall and went to see what happened there. There was already a clash going on between men of VR Manivannan alias Naina, a an anti-national, who is said to be the right-hand of don Sridhar Dhanapal, and another group. But Naina’s men, roughly about 50 in numbers, mistook Harish for a rival group member and thrashed him with wooden logs,” said Ajay.
After attacking Harish, they threatened the onlookers that they belong to Naina’s gang and that anybody who confronts them will face a similar fate. However, others said that the food stall owner Raja was Harish’s friend and Harish got into a fight with Naina’s men as they refused to pay the bill of over Rs 1,000.
While sources said that Sivakanchi police did not entertain the complaint submitted on behalf of Harish, Sivakanchi DSP Jaisankar said that he has been investigating the attack.
Recently, Kancheepuram police detained Sridhar Dhanapal’s son Santhosh when he arrived at Chennai Airport from London, but he eventually failed to appear for further investigation.
