Kottivakkam fisherman missing as boat topples

The missing person has been identified as Janakiraman, a fisherman. Police said that he along with two friends - Sankar and Mani - set out for fishing around 1 am on Saturday. However, within minutes the boat toppled due heavy water currents, throwing the fishermen off the boat. While Sankar and Mani swam back to shore, Janakiraman was not to be seen.

Neelankarai police have registered a missing case and are searching for Janakiraman with the help of Coast Guard personnel and 20 fishermen in five boats.

A 15-year-old school dropout was found hanging at her house on 40th block of Ezhil Nagar in Kannagi Nagar on Friday. The deceased has been identified as Haripriya, who dropped out of school after Class 8. 

Her father Yuvaraj and mother Saritha have a laundry stall in the locality and were not in the house when the incident happened. Neighbours spotted Haripriya hanging from the ceiling in the hall and rushed her to a private hospital, where she was declared brought dead. 

Later, her parents were also informed and Kannagi Nagar police were alerted. Haripriya’s body has been sent to Royapettah Government Hospital for post mortem. After the initial investigation, police said that she dropped out of school a year ago and stayed at home. She also has an elder sister, Charumathi. Further investigation is on.
