After schoolchildren, our policemen seem to be most vulnerable to dengue after four of the uniformed men were admitted to Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital (RGGGH) on Sunday. Considering the alarming rise in cops getting admitted to hospital for suspected dengue, the police department has also started providing Nilavembu Kudineer (ayurvedic medicine) to the personnel.
While Armed Reserve personnel Parthiban (27) and Central Crime Branch sleuth Shibu (35) were admitted to RGGGH on Friday night, Sakthival (33), who is attached to Avadi Battalion Police, was admitted on Saturday.
He was followed by another Armed Reserve personnel Yogaraj (30). All four were down with fever and were undergoing treatment at private hospitals before being shifted to the government hospital. Hospital sources said that their blood samples tested positive for dengue and their ward has been quarantined. S Selvakumar, Deputy Commissioner (Flower Bazaar), visited the personnel in the hospital.
Meanwhile, 1,000 Armed Reserve Constables were given Nilavembu herbal decoction (a recommended siddha medicine for prevention and management of viral infections/fevers) at an awareness campaign inaugurated by Pravesh Kumar, Deputy Commissioner (Triplicane) and held at Rajarathinam Stadium, Egmore, on Sunday. Sundararajan, Deputy Commissioner (Armed Reserve-I), said that the campaign was conducted to create awareness among cops about dengue.
“We are planning to conduct similar drives at all police quarters across the city,” he said. Twelve more people have reportedly been admitted in Stanley Hospital with suspected case of dengue, whereas two children died of dengue at the Government Hospital in Coimbatore, taking the toll in the district to 12 in the last two months.
