Dry ‘MMC’ hostel drives students to stir
Due to acute water shortage for the past 10 days in their hostels, MBBS and Post-Graduate students of the Madras Medical College (MMC) protested demanding action to solve the issue in the RGGGH hospital premises, on Saturday.
Chennai
After having allegedly been quiet about the problem until the students took to the streets, college officials have now assured the students that the issue will be sorted out.
Stating that around 150 to 200 students of the hostels participated in the protest, a student representative said, “The issue was taken up to the Dean and other higher officials but no action was taken. The water scarcity was quite severe. We have also been seeing a shortage of drinking water.”
Assuring the protesters of a solution, Medical Superintendent Dr Narayanasamy, who took over as dean-incharge, said, “We will ensure that the PG Hostel gets water 24x7. If not, they can approach the Assistant Engineer or the hospital warden. Their mobile numbers will also be provided to the students. We will also have alternative facilities in place to get supply from the metro water.”
