From now on, swipe your card to pay spot fines to traffic cops
In a major relief for motorists and traffic cops, who have often been blamed for demanding and accepting bribes, Point of Sales (PoS) machines were distributed to traffic inspectors and sub-inspectors in the city to collect fine digitally from traffic violators on Wednesday.

“On a pilot basis, 100 machines have been issued so far and based on the response, the order to procure more PoS machines will be placed. No changes have been made in fine amounts,” said Periaiah, Additional Commissioner (Traffic).
Traffic inspector Thiruvengadam attached to Mambalam station booked seven cases and collected Rs 900 using the PoS machine on Wednesday. Prem Anand Sinha, Joint Commissioner of Police, Traffic-North, said that SBI has issued machines as per government order for free and the department has to pay minimal service charges. “It will take a day or two to know the effectiveness of the initiative,” he added.
