Also, the sniffer dog  ran towards the house of the accused prompted them to question Ashok Kumar (24), who turned out to be the culprit in the case. A 14-year-old girl was found raped and murdered with her throat slit with a sharp weapon, in her residence at Alandur late on Sunday night when her family members had gone out.

Tiruporur police picked up Ashok Kumar after the sniffer dog ran to his house. Later police also identified the abandoned chappals which belonged to him at the crime scene. Police had also questioned Ashok Kumar’s friends and found out that Ashok Kumar had removed his black t-shirt at his friend’s house nearby, before heading to his house.

Ashok Kumar, who works as a coolie at a company in the same locality, first refused to confess until police confronted him with the evidences that they had collected. In his confession, the accused had told the police that he was friendly with the victim’s family and had the freedom to visit their house anytime. He also befriended the victim and developed an interest in her.

On Sunday, he learnt that the girl was alone at the house and attempted to assault her. When the girl shouted at him, he used a piece of cloth to gag her and raped her. After raping the girl, he used a knife to slit her throat and escaped from the spot, according to police sources.
