Animal activist Nishanth Ravi said that two search attempts were made on July 14 and 15. “We started searching in the evening, which is an appropriate time. We searched not only on the beach but also the market areas, to check if someone had stolen the dog thinking it was a pure breed, hoping to sell him off,” said the rescuer, adding that they had no success in finding Luke yet.

Ashwath, a student and volunteer who was coordinating the search, said that their efforts to locate Luke would continue. Detailing the search efforts so far, he explained, “We had two teams working on Friday and Saturday. One team was searching the Marina beach from the place where Luke was lost to the Lighthouse, while another team covered the fishing hamlets near the Lighthouse.

We carried posters and showed it to people. Many were aware of Luke through newspapers and social media. We also noted where the CCTV cameras were present in the beach and spoke to the shop owners at the beach to help us with any information. A radius of 2 km was covered. The search for Luke will continue.” The German couple lost Luke on July 8 and have been searching since to find their beloved pet, before heading to their next destination.
