    Chennai-based Sri Lankan man held by Bengaluru cyber cops

    The CCB Police have nabbed a three-member gang, including a Sri Lankan, which had indulged in cybercrime and swindled money to the tune of several lakhs.

    The gang included a notorious criminal Divyan, a native of Sri Lanka, who has now settled in Chennai and two other localities, including Navab Sharif and Nadim Sharif, police said. Divyan is in the wanted list of Chennai CCB police in connection with two criminal cases. 

    On June 21, 2017 the gang had purchased three LED television costing Rs 1,10,000 and paid through fake credit card. But the money was not credited to account and owner Chakrapani filed a complaint on July 14 and the case was transferred to Cyber Crime section. A special team led by Assistant Commissioner of Police H M Mahadevappa nabbed the gang. 

    The gang had rented out a flat at Jalahalli and used to collect details of credit card holders from foreign countries through their contact. Later, they used to transfer the data collected and design the credit cards to empty magnetic swiping card programme created in their laptop and emboss on credit cards through imported swiping card machines. The articles seized during the raid on their apartment included fake credit cards, card swiping machines, cards of different banks.
