Police arrested H Kamarudheen (21), a native of Kollam in Kerala and a student of SRM, A Yashwant (21) and V R Ashok Kumar (27), both residents of Kattankulathur for abducting S Nandhu (22), a former student of SRM, who also hailed from Kollam. One more accused Peter (25) of Kattankulathur is absconding.

Police said getting college admissions on commission basis has led to the abduction and assault of Nandhu, who was accused of cheating another person by collecting Rs 1 lakh for getting an engineering admission. Nandhu had collected Rs 1 lakh from one Soman, but could not get him admission in the college. He then refused to give the money back.

Soman’s friend Kamarudheen, who had once stayed with Nandhu, had demanded the money back on behalf of Soman but Nandhu refused. Police said Nandhu later returned Rs 20,000 but did not return the remaining amount. Late on July 8, Kamarudheen and his local friends Yashwanth, Ashok Kumar and Peter decided to abduct Nandhu to get the money back.

Since Kamarudheen and Yashwanth are known to the victim, they deputed Ashok Kumar and Peter to abduct Nandhu. On night of July 8, Ashok and Peter forcefully took Nandhu along with his car and drove towards Singaperumal Koil.

The duo assaulted Nandhu inside the car and later pushed him out at Singaperumal Koil, telling him to collect his car after getting the money. However, the duo got scared of taking away the car and abandoned it on the road side.

Nandhu lodged a complaint with the Maraimalai Nagar police on July 9 morning around 7 am and police registered a case. Police, after investigation, arrested three of the accused, except for Peter. A search is on to find the absconding accused.
