Kodanad Estate office staff commits suicide
A 29-year-old computer operator at former Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa’s Kodanad estate, near Kotagiri, committed suicide at his residence at Kengarai in the Nilgiris on Monday. The Nilgiris District Police identified him as B. Dinesh Kumar who was working there over the last five years.

Police sources said that the B.Sc. graduate had some problem in both eyes over the last few months and underwent corrective surgery last week. It is learnt that he did not go to work for three days and was in a distressed state. The police suspect that it could have been because he did not fully regain his eye sight.
On Monday, he hanged himself at his house using his lungi. Kumar’s body was taken to the Kotagiri Government Hospital, where postmortem was conducted. The police said that it was a clear case of suicide and ruled out possibilities of foul play. They said they were also investigating whether there was any family dispute behind the death of Kumar.
The incident occurred just two months after the estate’s night watchman was murdered and the estate bungalow burgled. The Kodanadu estate prominently figures in the disproportionate assets case involving jailed AIADMK general secretary V K Sasikala and the late Jayalalithaa, among others.
