Cousin killed doc for misbehaving with wife, held
Kolathur police arrested a 36-yearold man in connection with the murder of Dr Rajesh, who was found floating in the water sump at his house on Friday.
Chennai
After the autopsy report revealed that Rajesh had died even before being thrown into the sump, police intensified their investigation and nabbed Mahendran, who is a cousin as well as a neighbour of the deceased. The police claimed that during investigation, the accused confessed to the murder, saying that the doctor’s misbehaviour towards his wife Umayal forced him to commit the crime.Â
According to police, an argument erupted between Mahendran and Rajesh while they had been drinking on the night of June 27. In a fit of rage, Mahendran slapped Rajesh after which the latter collapsed. Mahendran dumped his body into the water sump and returned to his house in the same complex in Poombuhar Nagar.Â
The cops said that Mahendran initially cooperated fully with the investigation team. The police, meanwhile, found out that Rajesh had received a call from Mahendran on the day of the murder and began to grill him. Mahendran’s brother Vijayendran too was questioned by the police but was let off since he didn’t have any role in the incident. They also said that there was monetary dispute between the two families.Â
Rajesh was to get married on July 3 in Karaikudi and his parents had left for the place to oversee the preparations. Meanwhile, Rajesh went missing and on June 28, Mahendran’s father Rajendran had filed a complaint with Kolathur police. However, Rajesh’s body was recovered from the water sump two days later and sent for post-mortem. Rajesh ran a clinic at Mogappair West, while his father Nagarajan had a medical shop in the vicinity.
