Wife, paramour kill electronic spares maker
In a major twist to the investigation related to the murder of Ekkaduthangal businessman Udayabalan, Central Crime Branch (CCB) on Tuesday arrested his wife Udayalekha (37) in connection with the crime.
Chennai
Udayabalan, an electronic component manufacturer, was found murdered in his house with deep cuts all over his body on June 4. Guindy police, after a week-long investigation, had arrested K Rangasamy (35) of Vedaranyam, who reportedly admitted to have murdered Udayabalan for money. However, on suspicion that there could be other motives to the murder, the case was transferred to CCB.
During the CCB investigation, it was found out that Udyalekha had made calls to a mobile phone used by Rangasamy. Since it was a Closed User Group (CUG) number, police initially did not suspect anything. However, when confronted with the proof, Udayalekha is said to have given contradictory replies before finally admitting having planned the murder with Rangasamy.
CCB officials said Udayalekha and Rangasamy had been in relationship for about four years. They met when they attended meditation classes together in Selaiyur. Udayalekha allegedly told Rangasamy about the humiliation she faced by her husband. “That is when they hatched a plan to eliminate Udayabalan,” a police official said.
CCB Inspector Arokiya Ravindran said that Rangasamy had entered Udayabalan’s house on the morning of June 3 and had hidden under the bed till night. When Udayabalan returned after sending off his wife and children to her hometown, around 2.30 am, Rangasamy attacked Udayabalan with weapons killing him on the spot. To erase evidence, he poured water into CCTV recorder, which led to the delay in cracking the case. Udayalekha has been remanded in custody.
