Police said Vinod, a resident of Arumbakkam surrendered at the Uthiramerur court on Thursday and they have moved a petition seeking a five- day police custody of the accused.
Vinod, who is already accused in murder and attempt to murder cases in Arumbakkam and Aminjikkarai police stations, allegedly took payment to carry out the murder of  advocate Kesavan. He was hired by the advocate’s relative Ganeshan, a native of Periyapalayam who had allegedly been having disputes with him. Based on the instructions reportedly given by Ganeshan, Vinod, his friend Arunagiri and six others set out to murder advocate Kesavan.Â
The gang hacked Kesavan in full public view on Kamarajar Salai at Marina on June 19. Kesavan was returning on his two-wheeler after dropping his children at school, when the gang attacked him. Kesavan then abandoned his bike and tried to run to safety. But the gang followed and hacked him. They then escaped from the spot. Kesavan was rushed to the hospital with grievous injuries and he is presently undergoing treatment.
