Wife refuses money for liquor; murdered

Police said that Idhayaraj, a fisherman, and Nandini were married for over three years and were residing in Kasimedu with their two kids.

Meanwhile, Idhayaraj demanded money from his wife Nandini (24) to buy liquor before leaving for fishing on June 16. As Nandini turned down his request, Idhayaraj got furious and slapped her twice on the face.

Shattered by the sudden assault, Nandini fell unconscious and sustained injuries to her head. The woman, who was also bleeding from the ears, was immediately rushed to Stanley hospital, where she died without responding to treatment after three days.

Based on a complaint from Nandini’s mother Amutha’s, police registered cases under Section 307 of IPC (attempt to murder) and lodged him in Puzhal jail. After Nandini died on Monday evening, cops altered the case into murder and charged Idhayaraj under Section 302.

An unidentified trio entered a house at Tondiarpet and attacked a sexagenarian who was alone on Monday. R K Nagar police said that Fathima (65) was living alone in her house at Nethaji Nagar as her husband, a textile shop worker in Tiruchy.

Meanwhile, three unidentified men entered Fathima’s house around 4 pm on Monday, gagged her mouth and started attacking her. They hit her on the forehead and physically tortured her with cigarettes. Later, the trio snatched her earrings and fled the spot after locking her inside.

On hearing her cries, neighbours broke open the door around 8 pm and rescued Fathima, who had bleeding injuries. She was rushed to Stanley hospital. Police have launched a manhunt for the trio.
