According to police, Gajendran, a resident of Thazhambur, near Kelambakkam was hacked on Karanai Main Road when he tried to save his relative Kamalakannan from a fourmember gang.

Police said a four-member gang intercepted Kamalakannan while he was riding his two-wheeler and assaulted him. Gajendran, who came to know about the attack, rushed to the spot and tried to rescue Kamalakannan.

Angered by this, the gang hacked Gajendran and killed him on the spot. Earlier, Kamalakannan was going to meet his wife at Manampathy along with his friend on Sunday morning. After dropping Kamalakannan at his wife’s house, his friend was talking to a girl on Karanai Main Road.

Meanwhile, a group of locals came to the spot and warned him not to talk to the girl and leave the place. An argument ensued which resulted in clash between Kamalakannan’s friend and the gang assaulted him and snatched his bike.

When Gajendran came to know about this, he assaulted the four men and retrieved the bike from their custody. Infuriated by this issue, the gang retaliated and hacked Gajendran to death. Two persons, Neelakandan (28) and Ashok Kumar (21), have  been arrested in connection with the murder.
