5-member gang hacks lawyer near Light House
In yet another bloody attack on a lawyer in the city, a 46-year-old advocate practising at the Madras High Court was hacked by a five-member gang in full public view on Monday morning near the Light House railway station.
Chennai
The condition of the advocate identified as Kesavan, a resident of Avvai Shanmugam Road, who has been admitted to a private hospital, is said to be critical. However, police claimed that he was out of danger.Â
According to police, Kesavan after dropping his children at school was heading on his bike to the house of his father Shanmugam at Metha Nagar, when a five-member gang intercepted and attacked him. Â Though Kesavan tried to escape from the spot, the gang chased and hacked him multiple times.Â
Except one member, all the others were wearing masks, eyewitness accounts said. Meanwhile, the gang also fled the spot. Immediately, some locals and passers-by rescued Kesavan’s rescue and sent him to a private hospital. Sources said that the incident has been recorded in the CCTVs at the Light House station parking lot and on Rajaji Salai.Â
After checking the footage, police have reportedly zeroed in on one of the assailants. However, speculations are rift that Kesavan got money from two prisoners promising to bring them out on the bail, and since he failed to keep his word, they might have sent the gang to kill Kesavan.
