An 18-year-old boy fell in front of a mini lorry near R K Nagar police station and killed himself after he was caught stealing another person’s bike on Tuesday.
Chennai
Police said that the deceased, identified as Manikandan from Athipattu near Avadi, went with his father Thiyagarajan for construction work on Tuesday morning.
When they passed by R K Nagar, Manikandan went to a medicine shop to buy tablets for his father and found a bike parked in front of the shop with the key. He allegedly rode away the bike, but was chased and caught by the bike owner, named as Ravi (45). Ravi is said to have handed over Manikandan to R K Nagar station, as the place of theft fell under their jurisdiction.
Police said that since Ravi did not want to file a complaint, they let him off with a stern warning. Within minutes after they stepped out of the station, cops were alerted that the boy fell in front of a mini lorry and was run over.
