Police said that a group of supporters of former Congress MP J M Haroon Rashid, who had bought the market complex in an auction, demanded rent from the vendors, who were selling fish adjacent to the market.Â
Pointing out that the issue of the ownership of the market was currently subjudice, members of the association refused and asked the men to leave the place, which led to a clash between them.Â
On information, top police officials rushed to the spot and pacified both the groups. Later, a group of fishermen association members submitted a petition at the Chintadripet police station seeking action to ensure smooth functioning of the business in the market.Â
When contacted, the office of deputy commissioner of police, Triplicane, confirmed that the petition has been received. Meanwhile, Association members have planned a demonstration on Friday to demand the intervention of the CM and the ministers to uphold the rights of the fishermen in the 203-year-old market.
