Advocate accused of killing adopted kid; held
An advocate practising at the Madras High Court was on Thursday arrested and remanded in connection with the murder of his adopted girl child.

Police said that Gerald, an advocate, and his wife did not have child for a long time. So, they adopted a four-year-old girl, Mrudhala, who was speech impaired in 2016. A month later, the child was admitted to a private hospital with injuries. But, she died without responding to treatment.Â
Subsequently, a postmortem was done and the report revealed that the child could have been beaten to death. Following this, a case was registered naming Gerald as the main accused. However, the police are said to have delayed action against Gerald for close to a year. Â
Police said Gerald, the accused, was produced in Egmore court and remanded in custody.Â
60-yr-old run over by carÂ
A 60-year-old man identified as Ravi, an alms-seeker, was fatally run over by a car on Wednesday night, on a wedding hall premises in Annanagar. Police said that Ravi was sleeping near the car on private marriage hall premises. Sridharan, who came for a wedding at the venue, was not aware that Ravi was sleeping near the car. When Sridharan moved the vehicle, it ran over Ravi. Ravi was immediately rushed to Kilpauk Medical College, but he died without responding to treatment. A case has been registered under Sections 270, 304A against Sridharan and further investigation are on.
