Youth beats tipsy father to death in Kanchi

Police said the deceased Kannan, who worked as mason, had been an alcoholic and used to fight with his wife Jaya daily. On Sunday evening, Kannan came home as usual and started beating up his wife. The son Santhosh Kumar and his two sisters tried to stop Kannan but he did not listen. Unable to see his mother suffering, Santhosh Kumar picked up a wooden log and hit Kannan on the head. Kannan fell down with bleeding injuries and died on the spot. Neighbours later informed the Sivakanji police about the incident. Police came to the spot and shifted the body of Kannan to the government hospital. Police then arrested Santhosh Kumar and remanded him in custody.
