Addressing the media after participating in a function, Thirumavalavan said, “It is a fact that it is high time we needed to weed out communalism. Because, communalism is more dangerous than corruption and liquor. We are ready to join hands with the DMK to fight the communal forces.” Stating that VCK is not against any religion, he said, “There is a situation that has arisen in the political battle and it is sending ominous signal to us to unite forces with all the secular parties,” he said.
Demanding an apology from Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, who had sent soaps and shampoos to Dalits for taking bath before meeting them, the VCK chief said, “After Yogi assumed office in UP, violence against Dalits has been on the rise. Houses of Dalits have been torched in many parts of the state.”
He added that the UP government has not taken any action, even after thousands of Dalits staged protests in Delhi. Stating that Dalits had prepared 16 feet long soap to provide to Yogi to clean his ‘communal stain,’ Thirumavalavan said, “After BJP took over the Centre, Dalits have been facing violence across the country. In UP, communal forces target Dalits continuously and this should be contained.” The UP CM should openly apologise to the Dalit community for his insulting activities, he added.
