Chennai Silks fire: Probe against officials sought

Social Activist Traffic Ramamswamy has submitted that based on a plea moved in 2014, MHC had ordered the demolition of three floors in Chennai Silks, which had come up in total violation of the rules. Thereafter, the Supreme Court had also quashed the appeal moved by Chennai Silks following which three floors were demolished in 2007. But shortly thereafter, the floors were restored by the owners and this time four more floors were constructed without any plan approval and in total violation of the High Court and Supreme Court orders, with the help of Corporation and CMDA officials, he said. 

Also, pointing out that after 2007, T Nagar became a hub for unauthorised construction, the petitioner claimed that such violations were possible owing to the Housing Secretary Pratap Singh Yadav relaxing the development rules paving way for unauthorised constructions. The Housing Secretary had also instructed CMDA and Corporation Officials not to issue lock and seal notice for violations because they can subsequently be regularised under Section 113 C of the Town and Country Planning Act, which was utterly illegal, the plea added.
