According to police, Sulochana, wife of Ezhumalai, a resident of Periyar Nagar, Adambakkam, had to be hospitalised after the robber cut her earlobes and escaped with the earrings. Police said Ezhumalai, a car driver, was sleeping on the terrace due to the summer humidity on Thursday night. However, Sulochana slept inside the house.

In the night, an armed robber sneaked in through the open terrace entrance. Sulochana woke up on hearing some noise and was alarmed to see the robber standing in her bedroom. When she was about to raise an alarm, the robber brandished  a knife and threatened to murder her. He asked her to part with a three-sovereign gold chain she was wearing. A terrified Sulochana handed over the gold chain.

However, the robber asked her to part with the earrings too. As the gold earrings were presented to Sulochana by her mother and she attached much sentimental value to it, she refused to part with it. When she pleaded with the robber to spare the earrings, he forcefully removed her gold earrings.

In the process of robbing the earrings, he cut both her earlobes. Then he escaped from the house. Sulochana lodged a complaint with the Adambakkam police. A case has been registered and investigation is on.
