Attack incident on IIT-M campus draws High Court ire
Expressing anguish as to how a simple protest at the IIT-M campus over cow slaughter regulation can end up in students’ getting injured, the Madras High Court on Thursday agreed to hear the issue if petitions were filed in this regard.
Chennai
When the first bench headed by Chief Justice Indira Banerjee commenced its sitting after a month-long summer recess, senior advocate NJR Prasad mentioned about the incident as to how a boy suffered fracture in his hand and another suffered injury in his eye. He sought to move an urgent petition in this regard.Â
The CJ on wondering as to how a simple protest can end up with such injuries, asked the advocate to file a petition and directed the government Pleader to look into the issue of the student whose arm was broken in the protest.Â
The altercation had transpired on Tuesday over a beef fest held at the campus, resulting in right wing students attacking an IIT research scholar Sooraj, who suffered injuries in the eye, while another student Manish Kumar Singh suffered a fracture in his right hand.
