Santhana Gopalakrishnan, in his complaint, alleged that the makers of the movie have used the original names of his daughter and that of the accused. He also alleged that Ramesh Selvan the director of the movie Swathi Kolai Vazhaku, had claimed that the movie is based on the true story of Swathi murder.

Her father alleged that usage of the original names and claiming it as the true story would bring disrepute to his family. Hence, he urged the DGP to stop the release of the film.

Meanwhile, the movie director Ramesh Selvan, who claimed to have done enough research before he wrote the script, had said that he would conduct separate screening of the movie to the families of Ram Kumar and Swathi, to allay their fears.

Swathi, a 24-year-old Infosys employee was hacked to death in Nungambakkam railway station on June 24, last year. Police later arrested her alleged stalker Ram Kumar from his native village and had logged him in Puzhal prison.
