Model hid in hotel to ‘escape marriage’ back home after cops’ entry

Police said the woman had taken a room in a hotel near her friend’s house close to Ethiraj College and switched off her mobile, in a bid to threaten her family as they were forcing her to get married. The woman’s family had been putting pressure on her to get married as they wanted to get her elder brother married after that. However, Gaanam did not want to marry and to express her opposition walked out of the house. 

She left home on Friday, telling her aunt that she was going for work to Nungambakkam and did not return. She then took a room at a hotel near Ethiraj College and switched off her mobile phone. Her aunt Mahija lodged a complaint with the police on Saturday night. When the social media took up a campaign seeking help to trace her.

However, police, acting on the complaint, traced her to a hotel near Ethiraj College. Subsequently, the woman contacted her aunt and returned home, police said. 

Police, however, had done a lot of work and traced her. Before cops reached the spot, the woman came out and police took photos of her. They then followed her and she got a whiff of it and headed home straight. Police who followed her and ensured that she only headed to her house. “She just said ‘sorry uncle’ to us. We had a done a lot of work to trace her as it became a high profile case,” KK Nagar inspector Bhaskar told.
