Lions safari and zoo-round trips extended at Vandalur park
The Arignar Anna Zoological Park (AAZP), Vandalur, has taken steps to justify the amount they collect for the zoo round trip and lion safari by strictly instructing the staff to take people to 85 enclosures out of the 93 and to mandatorily stop at 9 points for the visitors to give ample time and have a closer look at the exhibits.

“I have instructed the staff concerned that there should be strict implementation of these standards and have directed them to monitor. We are trying to improve the services for the public who visit the zoo,” AAZP director-in-charge Amit Aksana said.
The lion safari, which used to be a 50-metre trip to a small area, where two lions are kept under a thatched hut shade and a few more kept in a cage, has also been extended. As per the orders, the visitors, who opt for lion safari, would be taken on a trip for 1.2 km inside the safari enclosure, providing them to have a ‘forest safari-like’ experience. The road inside the safari enclosure has been cleared to help tourist have a clear look at the animals.
“The tourists who buy tickets for lion safari will have a 2-km zoo-round trip and ride of 1.2 km inside the lion safari. They will also be taken to the deer safari in another enclosure,” AAZP public relations officer Shanmugham said.
He said the rates for the zooround trip and lion safari could not be revised as it was based on the government order.
