Transport minister MR Vijayabhaskar, after visiting Pallavan house in the city said "the government is ready to hold talks with trade unions and insisted the employees to withdraw the strike." He also warned severe action against omni buses that collect extra fare.

Private omni buses and school buses largely operated from Koyambedu with commuters complaining of exorbitant fares.

With only 40 percentage of MTC buses operating in the city, office-goers  were put through much inconvenience.

Speaking to DTNext, V Krishnamoorthy, MTC MD, said "I am visiting all the bus depots since morning to ensure more MTC buses are operated."

Using the opportunity, autos make hay day with inflated rates across the city. Passengers complained that since many route buses are unavailable, they were at a compelling circumstance to take autos by paying through the roof.
