Special trains to counter transport workers stir
In view of the indefinite strike by Tamil Nadu Transport department employees from Monday and following a request from the state government, the Southern Railway would operate special trains for the benefit of travelling public.

The special trains would be operated to Tirunelveli, Coimbatore and Tiruvarur from Monday onwards. A southern railway release on Sunday said Train No 06067 Chennai Egmore- Tirunelveli-Chennai Egmore unreserved specials, will be run on Mondays and Fridays (May 15 and 19), with a composition of 15 General Second Class (Sitting accommodation) coaches and two luggage cum brake vans, would leave Egmore at 7.40 am and arrive at Tiruneveli at 8 pm.Â
In the return direction, train number 06068 would leave Tirunelveli at 10.10 pm on all days from Monday and arrive at Chennai Egmore at 12 noon the next day.
Another unreserved special train with number 06069 will leave Chennai Egmore at 11.45 pm on all days except Thursdays and Sundays and arrive at Tiruneveli at 12.35 pm the next day. These specials will cater to nearly 7, 650 passengers in the Chennai-Tirunelveli sector.Â
The Coimbatore-Chennai Central-Coimbatore unreserved special to be run on Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sundays, will leave Coimbatore at 8 am and arrive at Chennai Central at 4.15 pm.Â
In the return direction, it would leave Chennai Central at 8.30 pm and arrive at Coimbatore at 5 am the next day. These specials will cater to a minimum around 5,100 passengers in the Chennai-Coimbatore sector.Â
The Chennai Egmore-Tiruvarur-Chennai Egmore reserved special fare special train will leave Chennai Egmore at 8 am and arrive at Tiruvarur at 2.30 pm. In the return direction, it would leave Tiruvarur at 3.35 pm and arrive at Chennai Egmore at 10.15 pm.
Minimum number of passengersÂ
These specials will cater to a minimum of around 3,600 passengers in the Chennai-Tiruvarur sector per day. The release said all these specials were run only to cater to the public requirement on account of the Transport employees strike in Tamil Nadu.Â
These specials will jointly cater to a minimum of around 16,350 passengers.
