Aavin plans outlets in 150 colleges with students’ teams
College students in Tamil Nadu arts and science college will get a chance to handle sales and indulge in man management as the state’s milk major Aavin (Tamil Nadu Cooperative Milk Producers Federation) plans to open sales outlets for its products in 150 arts and science colleges, top officials told DTNext.

“A new managing director taking over coupled with the success of Aavin’s milk products door delivery scheme in Chennai SAF games village and the unexpected response to its half a litre curd packs have all resulted in the federation’s marketing team working overtime to capitalise on the current positive trend for its products,” a senior official said.
“The 17 district cooperative milk producers unions (DCMPU) which cover 30 districts in the state have now been asked to provide the Chennai office with a list of selected colleges after first interacting with them,” the official added.
The federation increasing its milk holding capacity both at Chennai and in the districts has resulted in plans to take in additional milk which thus would be more than enough to meet any demand which could rise in Chennai.
The marketing staff will provide a two-day training on opening and closure of daily accounts, making the daily indent, receiving the material from delivery trucks, tracking sales and handling customers. “Working in a sales outlet would be treated as an IV (Industrial Visit) and a certificate would be issued,” officials said. “Aavin plans to spend Rs 5.25 crore at Rs 3.50 lakh per outlet for machinery and other necessary infrastructure,” an official said.
TN milk production figures from 2005-06 reveal the reason for Aavin being highly positive about foraying into new ventures. Milk production of 21.59 lakh litres rose to 24.36 lakh litres in 2012-13 and jumped by 4 lakhs litres crossing 28.90 lakh litres in 2015-16. “Aavin plans to sell more milk in Chennai than its present daily sales of 11.40 lakh litres,” an official said and added that this was one reason why the federation had the highest market share among all players.
