Doctors disrupt PG medical counselling
Tension prevailed on the first day of the Post Graduate Medical Courses counselling meant for the differently abled at the Government Medical College on Omandurar Estate. On Monday, nearly 140 members of four doctors’ association stormed into the hall, when around 10 applicants were undergoing counselling.

They raised slogans disrupting the proceedings. Police arrested the protesters and released them later in the day.Â
Members of Doctors Association for Social Equality, Tamil Nadu Medical Officers Association, Government Doctors Association and Service Doctors Welfare Association participated in the barge- in protest.Â
“We demand reservation for government doctors in PG admission. We are also demanding Presidential assent for the two bills passed inthe Assembly to exempt TN students from taking NEET and reservation for doctors from Tamil Nadu in the super speciality courses. We want quota for service doctors to be retained to incentivise those volunteering to work in the government sector,” said Dr GR Ravindranath of Doctors Association for Social Equality.Â
The counselling began on Monday for 562 seats in PG degree programmes and 200 diploma courses.
