The letter was reportedly written by a youth from Chengalpattu and the Government Railway Police have picked him up for interrogation.

RPF and GRP officials intensified security checks at Central and Egmore stations following the alert. RPF sources said that there were delay in departure of the trains due to the security checks.

“The letter was received around 1.30 pm on Tuesday at the station manager’s office. He immediately alerted the RPF and we carried out the checks. All the trains were checked before they were taken to the station for departure at the yard itself. So, there was not much delay,” a senior RPF official told DTNext

RPF and GRP personnel kept a close watch on the passengers, who arrived at the station and subjected their baggage to screening.

Hand-held metal detectors were used to check the hand bags and other parcels.

Police said the youth had given clear leads regarding his identity in the letter, which he claimed was written with social responsibility as he is informing about a plan of the Maoists.

“He has been picked up by GRP for interrogation. Further details are yet to emerge,” a GRP official said.

A similar letter was received at the Egmore station too recently, RPF sources added.
