Chief Secretary reviews steps to tackle heat wave
Municipal corporations and municipalities in the state should have an action plan ready to overcome an anticipated heatwave during the summer, Chief Secretary Girija Vaidyanathan said while reviewing measures initiated by various departments, at the Secretariat.

With schools being instructed to commence their summer vacation from April 21, they have also been advised not to conduct coaching camps. Similarly, the transport department has been asked to provide additional and special services for exam-bound high school students, an official release added.Â
The Health department has been asked to keep adequate stock of medicines and also to advise the public on precautions to be followed to avoid heat stroke, she said, adding, cattle should also be given necessary care and provided with enough water.Â
Municipalities and town panchayats have been ordered to open water points ( thanneer pandals) in busy areas and key junctions, while the labour department has been asked to take suitable steps to help construction workers. The rural development department has been asked to ensure that workers in the MGNREGS (Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme) are also taken care of.
