Spiegel’s ‘comment’ irks netizens in city
At a time when posts on the Internet determine one’s love for the country (or not), Snapchat’s CEO Evan Spiegel’s alleged statement that he doesn’t want to expand in poor countries like Spain and India has drawn the ire of netizens here.

This statement was leaked by a former employee, who revealed that during a meeting Spiegel had said that the app is only for rich people and not poor countries like India and Spain.
However, after receiving continuous backlash on social media, SnapChat has denied its CEO making any such statements. But, it was too late as the app that has around four million users in India, saw a sharp fall in the ratings. According to reports, Snapchat’s rating witnessed a sharp decline from four-and-a-half stars to just one-and-a-half star as on Sunday morning.
City folks too have responded to this and uninstalled the app. Hashtags like #uninstallsnapchat and #boycottsnapchatt have already started trending on social media.
“Snapchat is one of my favourite apps but the CEOs statement is hurtful so I have uninstalled it,” said Ashwin S, a college student. “Many of my friends have done the same,” he added.
Twitter has had a field day too. Jibraann U says, “Kids Use Snapchat. Men Are Uninstalling Snapchat. Legends Never Installed Snapchat #boycottsnapchat. Shrihari Prakash tweeted, “Dear Snapchat, you’ll be missed! #SnapchatHate #BoycottSnapchat.”
There were constant promotions too to give the app poor ratings. Ashish Kumar tweeted, “I just uninstalled #snapchat from my mobile and gave one star ranking in the review. Let us all #boycottsnapchat”
