TTV Dinakaran’s men block Income Tax officials from inspecting their premises

Highly placed sources in the Income Tax Department told DTNext that the cadres tried to prevent them from carrying out inspections and they had to take the help of the state armed police to continue their raids. However, the I-T personnel could not seize any unaccounted money from the constituency. 

“About hundred cadres stopped us from carrying out the inspection and blocked our way when we went there. They wanted us to leave the area and we had to take the help of the armed police. These cadres are permanently stationed in this area to block any inspection,” a senior official attached to the Income Tax Investigation Department said. 

I-T special squads have been permanently stationed at RK Nagar to check the flow of unaccounted cash in the constituency, which is going for by-poll on April 12. “Cash and gifts are being given to the voters, but they too have formed special squads for distribution of money and gifts. These squads of party men constantly change their location to escape the monitoring of I-T team,” another senior police officer said. 

The I-T personnel conducted searches at the house of a senior government functionary at Kummalamman Street and houses at Thondiar Nagar and Meenambal Nagar in Kasimedu. The flying squads have been checking the vehicles coming in and leaving RK Nagar constituency. Meanwhile, sources said some political parties have been providing coupons to the voters, which they could redeem for any product they like. 

I-T department sources said the checks would continue at RK Nagar as they have credible information regarding largescale money distribution in the constituency.
