Congress party has announced a statewide agitation on April 5 against the Centre for meting out a raw deal to Tamil Nadu in allocation of drought relief. The party would also protest the failure of the ruling party in the state to represent the issue properly with the Union government.

Announcing the agitation in a statement issued on Monday, Tamil Nadu Congress chief Su Thirunavukkarasar said that the party would hold the protests in all 234 constituencies on Wednesday against the BJP and ruling party in the state. He said, “The Centre has allocated relief for drought and Cyclone Vardah in a miserly manner.
There could be no better proof for the fact that the Centre was ignoring the state owing to its failure to develop the party in the state, despite putting on more efforts.”
Thirunavukkarasar took strong exception to the Narendra Modi regime allocating only Rs 1,748 and Rs 264.11 crore, against the Rs 39,565 and Rs 22,573 crore sought as relief by the state to overcome the drought and damage of Cyclone Vardah respectively. He accused the ruling party of lacking the courage to express its dissent to the Centre’s treatment of the state.
The TNCC chief said, “the ruling party which was fighting for (political) survival in RK Nagar by-poll does not seems to be bothered about the people.”
