Girl sexually abused by uncle ends life

The city police, who had registered a case under Section 174 of CrPC (suicide) have altered it to Section 376 of IPC and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act after the girl’s parents produced a suicide note. 

In her suicide note, the girl, who had just appeared for the SSLC examinations, said she was sexually abused by her paternal aunt’s husband Saravanan, who is the Correspondent of a private school in Koyambedu, on September 5, 2016. According to the police, the victim, who was a Class 10 student at a government girl’s higher secondary school in the city, was invited by her uncle Saravanan to his residence on September 5, 2016, telling her that her aunt and children have come back from their native town and wanted to meet her. 

When the girl reached Saravanan’s house, she found him alone and wanted to return home. However, Saravanan insisted that she should come inside and gave her some cool drinks. As per the suicide note, the girl was intoxicated after the drink and Saravanan raped her. He also threatened her not to speak about the incident to anyone. Police said the girl was depressed and started losing weight. When her parents asked about it, she told them about the incident and the family tried to cover it up. 

However, after the girl finished her SSLC exams on Monday, Saravanan claimed that he had nude pictures of her and threatened to shame her, the girl said in her suicide note. She then decided to end her life, police said. 

She doused herself with kerosene and set herself ablaze around 9 am on Wednesday. She died on the spot. Police are searching for Saravanan and his wife Sasikala, who the girl alleged also threatened her after the incident came to light.

A Class 11 student was crushed to death by a private water tanker near Nolambur on Thursday. The deceased, Nikhil, son of Shanthilal, of Balaji Nagar, Vanagaram was heading to Spartan Higher Secondary School, Mogappair along with his friend on a Honda Activa scooter when the incident occurred. While trying to overtake the tanker from the left side, Nikhil lost control of the scooter. 

Nikhil came under the wheels of the lorry while his friend fell on the other side and escaped unhurt. The Tirumangalam traffic police arrested the tanker driver Veerakamu for rash driving.
