According to police, Suresh (50), a resident of Orathi  village near Madhuranthakam, was working as a security guard at a real estate firm at Arambakkam near Kalpakkam. On Saturday night, a gang tried to break the lock and enter the office.

Suresh tried to stop them and was attacked. He suffered serious injuries and died on the spot. The gang then entered the office and took away the television, computers and other documents. On Sunday morning, residents saw Suresh lying dead at the spot and alerted the police. A police team from Sadras sent the body to the Government Chengalpattu Hospital for a post-mortem.

Local residents have told the police about two persons coming to the area on Saturday night. Police said that Suresh had suffered a deep cut to his head, presumably by a knife, that could have resulted in his death. “He had suffered injuries to his head and only a detailed investigation can prove what weapon was used for the assault,” an official attached to Sadras police station told DTNext.

Though the firm owner had purchased a CCTV camera, he had not installed it. Police found the CCTV camera set inside the office. The officials could not find any other evidence from the crime scene. However, police raised doubts over the possibility of Suresh being murdered for burglary. “We suspect that the murderers had some other intention than looting the television set and computers. We are checking the details of the victim to see whether he had any enemies,” the official added. Police also suspect that the assailants would have been aiming to loot some important property documents from the real estate firm. Special teams have been formed to investigate the case.
