A lorry transport owner was chased and hacked to death in broad daylight near Gummidipoondi by a six-member gang on Saturday.

The armed gang pushed Paneer (35) and his wife off the two-wheeler they were riding on and killed him. Tiruvallur superintendent of police ET Samson told DTNext that since the crime occurred a few metres beyond the Tamil Nadu border, the case has been handed over to Andhra Police. Police sources, however, said that both the victim and the accused belonged to Tamil Nadu.
According to sources, Paneer, a lorry transport company owner, residing at Chira Pallam at Gummidipoondi had gone to a Hanuman Temple along with his wife Rajeswari on a two-wheeler on Friday morning. While the couple was returning home, a six-member masked gang which had been following them, stopped the bike near the yet-to-be opened integrated check post near Silagavur. They pushed the couple off their bike, but Paneer quickly regained balance and started fleeing the spot sensing danger.
The gang chased and hacked him with machetes. Paneer succumbed on the spot. The assailants then got on to their bikes and escaped to Andhra Pradesh. “The murder has taken place within the Andhra police limits, bordering Gummidipoondi. So, we have transferred the case to them,” Arambakkam police inspector Sudalaimani told DTNext.
