Stayzilla CEO Vasupal’s bail plea rejected
It seems there is trouble brewing for Stayzilla promoter Yogendra Vasupal, as a special court in Chennai besides setting aside his bail plea, also sent him to one-day police custody. Vasupal was arrested on March 14 for cheating and criminal intimidation.
Chennai
The special judge for central crime branch (CCB)-CBCID cases, MM Kabir, dismissed the entrepreneur’s bail application on Thursday, after holding that a prima facie case of cheating and criminal intimidation had been made out and that the amount involved in the dispute was quite large.
The judge also pointed out that the investigation was still in its early stages and the custody petition filed by the police is pending with the court already. He then sent Vasupal for a day’s custody with the Central Crime Branch (CCB) from 3 pm on Thursday till 3 pm on Friday. During the period he shall not be harassed or tortured, the judge added.
The case relates to a criminal complaint lodged by the Chennai-based advertisement firm, Jigsaw Advertising, alleging that Stayzilla utilised their services to the tune of Rs 1.72 crore. The complainant alleged criminal intimidation, cheating and breach of trust.
However, during the bail hearing, Vasupal’s counsel had contended that the criminal charges foisted against him are part of pressure tactics to settle a civil dispute.
It may be noted that the arrest of Vasupal had triggered a debate in social media as to whether criminal proceedings could be initiated against entrepreneurs on such complaints. While Vasupal was arrested on March 14, the other promoter is said to be on the run.
