Government to set up bird sanctuary in Viluppuram district
Forest Minister Dindigul C Sreenivasan during the Question Hour said that a bird sanctuary will be established in Kazhuveli of Edacheri village near Vanur in Viluppuram district at a cost of Rs 1.93 crore.

To a question raised by M Chakrapani MLA of Vanur constituency of Viluppuram district, the minister said work was already in progress. “There are forest lands in the area and the new sanctuary will be formed in Kazhuveli,” he said and added that the forest officials were continuously monitoring the areas to prepare a blueprint.
Meanwhile, Thangam Thennarasu, MLA of Tiruchuli, asked the Forest Minister about the possibility for creating a new sanctuary exclusively for sparrows but the minister replied in the negative. In the same context, Aravind Ramesh, DMK MLA of Sholinganallur alleged that the Pallikaranai marshland was largely encroached upon. The minister replied that they were taking appropriate measures to protect the marshland and the Forest department was taking actions to remove encroachments.
