Three engineering students killed, one injured in accident

Police said, the four, Shakthivel (21) from Gandhi Nagar in Kovilambakkam, Sashikumar (20) from Tirunelveli and Ravikumar (21) from Cheyyar and Prakash (22) from Tindivanam, were students of a private engineering college in Semmenchery. They were returning to the college hostel on two bikes after a leisure trip to Mahabalipuram. 

When the four were at Kovalam, a tender coconut laden van coming from Marakkanam rear ended the bikes. Shakthivel, Sashikumar and Ravikumar died on the spot while Prakash sustained grievous injuries. The van driver fled the spot. 

On information, the Kelambakkam registered a case and are searching for the absconding van driver. 

In another incident, two women suffered injuries after an Audi car rammed against a load autorickshaw in which they were sleeping at Wall Tax Road on early Sunday. The women, identified as Ellamal (80) and Vasantha (38), were footpath dwellers and worked in nearby petty shops. 

On Saturday night, the duo slept in a load autorickshaw that was parked near Blue Star hotel in Park Town. 

Around 5.30 am on Sunday, an Audi car driven by Vignesh (24), of Kundrathur rammed the autorickshaw injuring the women. Police said the car had hit an auto parked on one side of the road, following which the driver lost control and rammed against the load autorickshaw parked on the other side of the road. 

“Vighnesh was coming from Chrompet after dropping his sister, a who is a medical student, in her college hostel,” a police official said. 

Vighnesh took the two women to the Rajiv Gandhi Government Hospital for treatment. The police have registered a case and are investigating further.
