Mason’s head smashed with stone in drunken brawl
A 50-year-old man was murdered by his friend following a drunken brawl between at Tirumullai Nagar near Chitlapakkam on Monday night.

Police said the accused had crushed the head of the victim using a stone, killing him instantly.
Police said, M Subramani, a resident of 4th Cross Street, Maheshwari Nagar, Hasthinapuram and I Venkateshan (50), a resident of Harijanar Colony, Hasthinapuram were masons and used to have drinks every day after work.
While having drinks on the side of the Tirumalai Nagar 1st Main Road on Monday night, the two got into an argument over the amount of liquor poured into each other’s glasses. The verbal duel soon turned physical. A police patrol team saw the two fighting and chased them away from the spot.
However, around 11 pm, the Chitlapakkam police received information that a man was found dead on the 1st Main Road and rushed to the spot.
They found Subramani dead in a pool of blood with his head smashed with a stone. Police then launched a search for Venkateshan and arrested him. Police said, even after being chased away from the spot, the two did not stop fighting.
At one point, Venkateshan picked up a stone and smashed it on Subramani’s head. Venkateshan had also suffered injuries in the fight.
Snapped live cable claims woman’s life
In a freak accident, a 50-year-old woman, standing in front of her residence, was electrocuted when a live cable snapped and fell on her at Poompuhar Nagar in Kolathur on Monday night.
Police said Chandra, a resident of Poompuhar Nagar, was standing in front of her house around 11 pm on Monday when the live electric cable snapped and fell on her. Neighbours informed the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board (TNEB) officials, who disconnected the supply to the line.
The residents rushed Chandra to the Kilpauk Medical College hospital, where doctors declared her brought dead. The police have registered a case for unnatural death and are investigating further.
Four killed as car rams tree in Villupuram district
Four persons including three women were killed when their car rammed into a tree and fell into a roadside ditch along Villupuram-Tindivanam highway, near here on Tuesday, police said.
The accident occurred when the car from Andhra Pradesh, carrying four persons including the driver, was proceeding to Chennai, they said. The driver lost control of the vehicle at ten bazaar and hit the tree before capsizing into the over 10-foot deep pit.
A woman passenger who sustained injuries has been admitted to the hospital, police said.Police have registered a case and are investigating.
