    Man kills room-mate after verbal spat

    Korattur police arrested 24-year-old Arokya Subash, for murdering his room-mate Babu, following a verbal spat on March 10.

    Police said that Subash and Babu belong to Vellore and Ramanadhapuram districts respectively and had been staying together in a rented house at Padi. Babu, a diploma holder, worked with an IT firm in Ambattur and Subash was a contract labourer with TVS Lucas. 

    According to the police, Babu had lost his gold chain and had asked Subash about it. Infuriated with Babu’s continuous inquiry about the missing chain, Subash, in a fit of rage, attacked Babu with a knife, killing him on the spot. Meanwhile, a team from Korattur police station  reached the spot and arrested Subash.

    CCTV grab helps nab chain snatchers 

    Two men who have been involved in a series of chain-snatching offences were arrested at Vadapalani after police tracked them down using CCTV grabs. The duo had gone on a chain snatching spree from three women on the same day. 

    The police arrested Saravanan, 23, of Balakrishnan Street in Moolakadai and Ghose Bhasha alais Riyaz, 23, of Pattalam.  On March 2, the men stole a two-wheeler on Chinmaya Nagar. 

    The bike-borne men rode to Gangai Amman Koil Street in Virugambakkam by 3 pm where they again targeted  a woman with a gold chain. They later reached Natesan Nagar and snatched another gold chain.  The men again snatched a gold chain from a techie at Vadapalani Main Road. Cops said Saravanan was involved in two murder cases in the past.
