State to provide free 1,000 battery-run tri-wheelers for differently-abled

Similarly, another Rs 49.25 lakhs was earmarked to provide tablets with AAC (augmentative and alternative communication system) facility – each worth Rs.25, 000 – to those suffering from a range of  mental issues, he said and added that the AIADMK government would provide 2 AACs to each special school in the state. EPS, who handed over one AAC, said the facility would also be provided to mobile dispensaries and elementary training centres in the districts. 

Palanisamy also handed over Rs 3 lakh from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund to differently abled student R Rajkumar for his higher education. The amount was sanctioned based on his marks in the SSLC and Class 12 exams and his family’s financial condition. He distributed specially designed wheel chairs for those suffering from spinal defects at an estimated Rs.1.92 crore for 960 beneficiaries at the rate of 30 beneficiaries from each district. He also inaugurated an audio alert system (AAS) in 75 Chennai city buses plying on 10 routes to enable the blind use public transport without difficulty. 

The selected buses would be fitted with radio   frequency transmitters (RFT) at a total cost of Rs.3.65 lakhs while selected 150 blind persons would be provided with radio frequency receivers (RFR) which totally cost Rs.5.85 lakhs. The first visually handicapped person was provided this facility.
