The boy, Mohammed Asif had come to the hospital along with his six-year-old brother and mother Hussaina, who was suffering from a thyroid infection. Hussaina’s relatives Reshma, Basiya and Ambina had accompanied them. Hussaina went to the Out Patient (OP) ward to receive a report on her blood tests. While Reshma carried the older son with her, Hussaina was carrying Asif. At the counter, she put him down to pick up the report.

Minutes later, the boy was nowhere to be found. After frantically searching for him inside the hospital, the women informed the officials and lodged a complaint. The police also combed the hospital campus.

“Asif had come to the GH with his mother wearing his school uniform. His school was organising a cultural event and Hussaina brought him to the hospital so that she could drop him at school on her way back,” an official had said. In the complaint, Hussaina reported that Asif was wearing a round neck blue coloured t-shirt and ash coloured shorts and had short hair.

“We searched the entire hospital campus. All wards and rooms in the hospital have been thoroughly checked. An FIR has been lodged. There are 100 odd CCTV cameras in the campus. The counter from where the boy went missing has 16 cameras. There are visuals of the mother entering with the child, but we don’t have the visuals of the child afterwards,” an official said, Three special teams, led by Deputy Commissioner Jayakumar have been formed to trace the boy.

Deputy Commissioner of Police, Jayakumar said, “The child’s speaking ability is not fully developed. We are checking if he is stuck somewhere and unable to ask for help or someone has taken him and is trying to figure out his whereabouts. As of now, the police are checking all the available CCTV footages. There is no kidnap angle to the case,” said Jayakumar. The family lives in Muthamizh Nagar, Kodungaiyur and Asif’s father Baharkath runs a meat shop.
